CAPE TOWN – Cape Town is making the mother of all cellphone donations.
The city says over 32,000 cellphones have not been claimed after being confiscated.
Cape Town’s bylaws allow traffic officers to confiscate motorists’ phones if they’re using them while driving.
Road users normally need to pay a fine of up to R1,500 to get their device back.
The city plans to donate the unused phones to neighbourhood watches, NGOs and non-profit organisations.
It says they’ll first be reset to ensure personal data is not shared.
